Expectations are not bad in and of themselves – just like anything is not inherently good or bad (they just are), we label them as such.

Swami Sri Yukteswar has a beautiful quote which is, “Wrath springs only from thwarted desires. I do not expect anything from others, so their actions cannot be in opposition to wishes of mine.”

When we tie our happiness to expectations of outcomes, we are taking ourselves out of the present moment and projecting our happiness into the future based on the result of our expectation and desire to achieve X, Y, or Z on the material plane.

Is it humanly possible to have zero expectations? As long as we are identified with the human bodily vehicle and the material world, no it isn’t.

Which is why the most powerful thing you can do for yourself is to go into the silence and stillness (which meditation offers) to connect to the true infinite energy of consciousness which you are – your soul Self.

There, expectations fall away and you live in the peace and Oneness of your Divine Self in Union with God-consciousness. You drink from that wisdom and act accordingly for a Higher Purpose.

Buddhist monks are known to sweep the floor of the ashram – not for the end goal of the ashram being clean, but for the presence and beingness of the action of sweeping itself.

When we talk about letting go of expectations, we are talking about living fully in the now without the results meaning anything about your worthiness.

Goals are not just meant for the final 1% of the attainment they bring us, but for the 99% of the journey along the way. There, the experience ripens us with the wealth of wisdom and learning we receive.

Continue on, but ensure your doing is aligned with your WHY, and ultimately when connecting to something bigger than yourself, will reap even greater results.
